FAQ
Lines are compared first (longest common subsequence, LCS) to decide which lines are the same and which are added or deleted; for paired edits where one line goes and another comes, the two are then compared word by word, and the words that actually changed are marked in red and green. Side by side shows the whole picture, the line-by-line view shows the detail.
At most 2000 lines per side (beyond that the comparison pauses with a notice - please compare in chunks); within the line cap there is no character limit, only your machine's memory applies. Empty lines are kept in the comparison, never silently dropped.
No. The comparison algorithm (LCS) runs locally in your browser, without a single server request; the text exists only in the page's memory and reloading clears it.
Yes. Paste one version per side and you quickly see which lines and which words changed; note that this tool knows no syntax and compares raw text only - a block moved wholesale shows up as delete some lines plus add some lines.
