FAQ
The bitmaps embedded in the PDF: photos, scans, logos and the like; common encodings such as JPEG / PNG / grayscale / indexed colour are all supported (pdf.js decodes them and exports everything as PNG). Vector graphics - lines and text - are not bitmaps and cannot be extracted.
Each image is decoded at its original pixels and saved losslessly as PNG, the same size as when it was embedded; if the PDF stored a lossy image (say a JPEG), the result carries the very same compression traces - extraction neither makes things 'sharper' nor 'blurrier'.
Images in special encodings (such as JPX2000 wavelet) or that fail to decode are skipped individually with the reason noted, leaving the other images on the same page untouched; images above 40 megapixels are also skipped to keep the browser from running out of memory.
No. pdf.js decoding plus canvas PNG export all happen inside your browser; the file is never uploaded and reloading clears it.
