ODS to Excel
.ods to .xlsx · cell values, formulas and multiple worksheets kept · opens straight away in Excel / WPS
FAQ
Yes, it uploads - but only for this one conversion. The internals of .ods and .xlsx differ: formulas, multiple worksheets and cell formats all have to be rewritten under Office's OOXML rules, which the browser cannot do with fidelity to Excel, so conversions of this kind go through the server-side document engine (the same channel as our Office-to-PDF and CSV-to-Excel). Uploaded files are used only for the conversion: deleted the moment conversion finishes, not written to any database, not retained, not used for anything else, never sent to any third party. Every other tool on the site (images, local PDF processing, text, QR codes and so on) still runs entirely in your browser - those files never leave your machine.
Yes. Every worksheet with its name, cell values and text, formulas and the common number and date formats is converted - and formulas arrive live, not baked-in values. If a cell shows 0 or a stale value when you open the file, press F9 or double-click the cell and press Enter to recalculate. What is not preserved: macros (Basic macros inside .ods are programs and are never written into an .xlsx), and the completeness of complex objects such as pivot tables, charts and conditional formatting - open the result and check those.
.ods is the OpenDocument standard; Excel understands only its own .xlsx / .xls by default, so double-clicking usually reports an unsupported format. Converting to .xlsx keeps all worksheets, formulas and formatting intact - the right choice to keep editing in Excel. Converting to .csv keeps only the plain contents of the first worksheet, formulas collapse into values and all formatting is lost - it is only good for data exchange. If the sheet still has to compute, convert to .xlsx.
This page accepts .ods (spreadsheets) only. For text documents (.odt) use the ODT-to-PDF / ODT-to-Word pages; for presentations (.odp) use the ODP-to-PPT page - a wrong format is rejected server-side with the reason stated. 20MB per file; above that, split the worksheets or shrink the images inside. An .ods with an open password cannot be converted - remove the password first.
Typical sheets take seconds to tens of seconds; with many sheets, long formula chains or many images it can run to about ninety seconds. When the server is busy you get a 'too many requests' message - wait a moment and retry. Common failures and their messages: unsupported format or direction (400), file over 20MB (413), conversion quota used up (429), corrupt file (502), conversion timeout (504), service temporarily unavailable (503). A failed conversion never modifies your original file - retrying is just clicking Start again.
